You know what, no! But the rules are set up and this can happen. I don't thin it's fair to the other teams with a better winning percentage that don't get allowed but that's how the playoff system has been set up. I think football is fairest since there are less wild card teams as compared to other sports. Basketball and Hockey are most prone to this abuse as baseball usually is also like football more likely to award the team with the better record. I'm sure Rugby, cricket and soccer do as well but as a dumb American I don't follow those sports.

According to the rules they should. However, it should be a moot point early into the playoffs. Unless the team has an incredible string of good luck (Check out the Colorado Rockies at the end of last season) they should fall early to the "better" teams.
