There is closed-mindedness with any sort of extreme viewpoint, be it extremely liberal or conservative. Being open to new ideas, and relying on common sense, is really the only way to go. I would consider myself more liberal than conservative, but it's not based on doctrine or "party lines", just happens to be the direction my own brand of common sense points me toward.
