Yeah, for primary or high school students, i think it has little to no beinifit as kids normally rush through it, taking minimal effort anyway. As for university, good luck getting a degree without it. Different kettle of fish so to speak...

I think people need to study in their own way. Formal "homework" is usually just a pointless tedious exercise. It wastes teachers time too. Instead of planning creative new lessons or resting, they're are stuck marking all that crap. So why do we have it? Unfortunately education is not just about educating, it's about conditioning and selecting suitable workers. What qualities do you think the corporations look for in an employee besides the skills needed to do the job? I reckon that right at the top of the list is willingness to endure drudgery. That's why courses these days are so much more coursework based and than exam based. They don't want a course you can get through just by being smart. You could be the smartest, most skilled guy in the world, but if you're not willing to take sh*t, they don't want you.
