Well...renting one gets to be expensive, and stealing one is illegal...;-D... There is no actual compelling reason to buy one. In modern society (esp. in the United States), it is difficult to organize one's life so that you don't need a car, but people do it. I'm sure with a little research you can find groups/web sites on the Internet that discuss car-free living. . One service that has emerged to help this is called "car-sharing", where you essentially pay a monthly fee for the right to 'borrow' a car occasionally. The sharing service takes care of things like storage, maintenance, and insurance. . http://www.carsharing.net/ . So, it's your choice. It's up to you to figure out which choice is most advantageous. . . .
