Yes, I think that he is, he believes in redistribution of wealth as he stated in his conversation with "Joe the Plumber" and he also feels that people like Joe are holding less successful people back, so therefore the government is entitled to give some of Joe's money to those less successful people. If that doesn't fit the definition of socialism I don't know what does. The essence of social is the redistribution of wealth. Check out the Merrriam Webster definition of Socialism http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism The first entry reinforces this concept: 1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods Obama said he wanted to distribute wealth, so there he is a socialist, plain and simple. Hey, Lucky lefty, just because socialism inspired capitalism that doesn't make socialism good, in fact on the contrary, by your definition that would be make polio good because someone was inspired to find a cure for it and I don't think anyone would agree that polio is a good thing.

In many ways, Obama displays socialist leanings. The forced redistribution (theft) of funds from one individual to another is a basic tenet of socialism. Controlling a persons income by any means (in Obama's case, higher taxes on the wealthy), is also a socialistic act. Forcing businesses to provide health insurance (which is an employment BENEFIT, not a right), falls into this catgory also. This is the Wikepedia definition: Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating social or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society.[1][2] Modern socialism originated in the late nineteenth-century working class political movement. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution which represents the transitional stage between capitalism and communism.[3][4] Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism by nature concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital, and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly, although there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how, and to what extent this could be achieved.[1] Socialism is not a discrete philosophy of fixed doctrine and program; its branches advocate a degree of social interventionism and economic rationalization, sometimes opposing each other. Another dividing feature of the socialist movement is the split on how a socialist economy should be established between the reformists and the revolutionaries.
