Is the reason that 600 U.S "Starbucks" are closing because folks don’t have money for expensive coffee anymore after they are done paying for expensive gas?

No, I think it's more that they expanded too much and opened too many Starbuck's stores. Some of them are even in the same block as other Starbuck's stores. There was a report on this on NPR today. The thought was also that some of these newer stores contributed to "cannibalization," in that some areas couldn't support two stores.

The economists will say no, but of course $5 gas is not helping matters any.
