  • The procedure is not really painful, but a little creepy. The only thing that hurts is the initial injection of lidocaine. After that, the area is pretty numb. There were 4 needle biopsies done each lasting about a minute each. You feel the pressure/movement of the biopsy needle, but not really too much pain. The biggest amount of discomfort is psychological (when you think about a needle being in your neck). It was helpful for me to keep my eyes closed for the procedure and think about other things - force yourself to daydream about something fun to take your mind away. I guess it was kind of like being the dentist - the shot to numb the area hurts, but when they drill it doesn't really hurt, just creepiness and pressure. Hope that helps!
