How can you get a job in an area you want to move to when you live several hundred miles away from that area?

A friend that i had from another state got a job from where i'm from, first he made an aplication online, like on jobbing.com and some other places online, you might get interviews but no exatly the job right away, try a couple that you seem interested, but you need time to stay aroung to give it a shot you need to have some money saved and a place to stay cause it can take a month or so or would you be able to go back two or three times?.
