Is it rude to sniff your food before eating it if it's something new to you and you're in a restaurant or eating at someone else's place? If you saw someone do this to the food you cook, would you be offended?

Some people may have that habit to sniff before eating.Sniffing to show appreciation of the food may look alright but if done with the obvious distasteful look from the face will not be nice at all to the host who took pain to prepare the dish.

No, it is not rude, smell is a factor when eating food.

In Europe and Latin America it is absolutely rude to smell or sniff the food before or after eating. Of course I would be disturbed at the persons lack of eduction. Not offended as perhaps that persons knows no better. Regards.
