Yes it is decently reliable. Often times over filling the oil can be far worse than having a slightly low oil. It can cause seals to rupture and the engine to destroy itself.

As piston rings and cylinder walls wear, there is more "blow by". That is the burning gas in the cylinder leaks around the rings and end gap. That is most likely the cause of oil coming out of the crankcase. That is a lot of mileage for a Kawasaki.
