I live in Washington State and I am in the Army. I am trying to fly from Seattle to Chicago 23 Aug and return 3 Sep. I have a wife and a 3 yr old son who will also be flying with me. What is the best way to get cheap tickets.

Check with www.sidestep.com and www.kayak.com and be sure to check www.southwest.com, and especially discounter airlines after Tuesdays.

Try searching the travel sites after midnight - that is when the dump unused seats back in to the system.

Use the travel sites to get prices, then check out the indivdual airlines - you may be able to at least save the service fees.

Open your search to non-direct flights - Non-stop flights are almost always more expensive.

Check out your MWR travel office - they may be able to help you book a flight that honors a military discount.
