Not a poem. A short story maybe. I'm not much of a poet I'm afraid. Ethan walked down the dark, narrow hallway and into the study. The smell of fresh paint filled the room. A large stained wooden desk stood proud against the far right wall, and a black leather lounge sat in the middle of the room. One single window allowed a stream of sunlight into the room, giving the whole place a warm glow. He didn’t feel warm though. He felt cold. Cold, and alone. He had ever since the death of his father only three months earlier. That’s why he and his mother had moved here just a few days ago, to leave those painful memories behind. He ran his fingers along the back of the lounge as he slowly approached the desk that had served his father for so many years. On the desk, a photo of him and his father taken a few years ago sat in a silver frame. He picked it up and thought back to that day. How happy he had been. A sad smile crept across his face. “I miss you.”

One day my son asked me Mom, why am I me? I was so surprised I looked into his eyes What did I see? I saw his daddy and me I said son, you are not you but the union of two Your mom loves your dad and your dad loves her back Our love was so strong That you came along And that my dear boy Explains with true joy Why you are not only you You are both of us too

I looked out the window and what did I see, but two sparrows mating as bold as could be! They fluttered and danced as they coupled so bold I'm sure that some eggs, their nest soon will hold. At least three or four sparrow nests in the back, hidden in the ivy we have no lack. The babies they chirp, they cry just to eat, while Mom and Dad bring food, I'll bet they are beat! But it doesn't take long for young sparrows to grow, and I guess that is why they are coupling so!

You always bring me a special joy That comes straight from my heart And every year that passes by I watch God’s work of art. Through every stage and every age It’s a blessing to watch you grow, And I hope you’ll take life by the hand, And reap that which you sow. You’re a very special daughter to me That words cannot describe I know sometimes I’m hard on you And it hurts to see you cry....... I have always tried to be there for you In every kind of way I'm the proudest Dad a man can be And I think that every day. Now the years have gone flying by, And you’re ready to see the world Just remember this no matter where you go You will always be my little girl.

There was a little boy, he had a truck, his joy. One day he left in the way, right in the middle of the driveway. He forgot the right thing to do, his truck was gone, his joy too. That Christmas he asked Santa Claus to please bring him a new truck he promised he would be good, to always bring his toys in like he should. As he opened his presents that year he hoped that his truck was under there. He only had one more gift to open it was his red truck! Like he was hoping! His truck outside he would never leave, He would never forget this Christmas Eve.
