Not in Firefox itself through the GUI. That shortcut is common to all the major browsers as well. All I can think of to remove the function is to do it through your keyboard's programable software and change or remove the hotkey. That's if your keyboard software (if any) supports that or do it the hard way and that's to actually modify the browser hotkey bindings. It is after all, open source software.

1 - In the address bar type: about:config.
2 - Scroll down to the entry called browser.backspace_action.
3 - Double-click on this row and it will pop up a dialog box asking you to enter a value. The current value will be 0, change it to be 2 then click OK.

I'm sure once I get deeper into my studies, this will be useful to me. In my present state of ignorance, however, I can't make heads or tails of it. Need to make sure my cursor is in the edit field before I hit backspace is all.
