  • I am going on Sunday to one and I am getting her a 'keepsake box' It is silver and you can engrave it.It is to keep a lock of baby hair, first tooth ect..
  • A car.
  • Find out the colors of the room and buy some towels or blankets in those colors. (Most people register these days.)
  • When I was born my godmother gave me a blanket and I slept with that thing every night until I was probably a bit over 10. I actually still have it and I'm 17 now. though I don't sleep with it anymore I can't bring myself to throw it away.
  • You could give like some kind of toybox or something, but If I were a new parent.. I'd want the diapers and clothes, diapers and things of that nature are so expensive. Looking back, its those things that we appreciated the most as far as gifts went.
  • Buy them a photo session at the local photographer for newborn shots. You can set up the appointment when they can be there, and take care of the payment yourself so they won't know the cost involved.
  • A gold cross along with a necklace
  • Baby photo album
  • Baby books. My mom always buys books for my cousins' babies because she doubts they'd have any books otherwise.
  • I just went to a shower and I got them a very nice picture frame, and the cutest piggy bank.
  • A baby book. However, generally, showers are meant for the gifts that someone needs to get started. (Diapers, clothes, baby wipes, baby bath things...) and the Baby Gift you give after the baby is born is for the keepsake or long term gifts. A baby book for the mom to fill in and keep as a memento would be really nice though.
  • what about a fish tank? the "white noise" would be soothing to an infant and they always look cool in any room :)
  • I usually make up a gift basket of all the "little things" that many new parents don't even know they need. For my friend Jill's first daughter, she got a basket with a nasal aspirator, a thermometer, a pacifier that distributes medicine, safety q-tips, electrical outlet covers, spring locks for cabinets, a "Baby On Board" sign for the car, an infant manicure set, a jar of Boudreaux's Butt Paste (best. diaper rash cream. ever.), and some Mylicon gas drops. I think there were a few more things in there, but I can't remember what.
  • i no longer buy anyone presents.. there has been too much drama and mayhem associated with gifts. i give GREEN, as it's always the right size and color.
  • how bout a silver rattle. that'll last a good long time
  • A savings bond.
  • A pet rock. That won't be going anywhere for quite a while. The baby will probably want to sleep with it too.
  • get them a remote telephone with an additional extension. one with a digital answering machine and remote answer checking. a landline telephone...the new 900 mhz. If they already have a set, another set is always handy.
  • A keepsake of some sort - maybe some sort of snowglobe or trinket. The baby won't have any use for it now, but it'll serve as a nice decoration in the house until they're old enough to appreciate it. For example, I know I would have loved to be given one of those beautiful snowglobes I've seen at the Disney store - large, very detailed. The one I liked was Pirates of the Caribbean themed. :p
  • Well you can give them a beautiful photo album, and first snap would be the group photo of all guests attending this baby shower.
  • I don't know how much money you want to put into it or what you mean by long time. I think there are many things like blankets that you can get made that the baby can use for many years to come. You could buy a stroller that will last for a long time but not a lifetime. High chair, again a couple of years. Picture frame which has been said already. Keepsake items will never get outgrown but they will never actually be used and they will eventually be packed away some where and not even seen. I think it is best to give something that will be used like bottles, sippy cups, bottle racks are great, gas drops, tote bags are good gifts and if you already know what the baby's name is going to be you can have the name engraved on the bag.
  • a hard-bound copy of beatrix potter's stories (peter rabbit, et al) or any other classic children's picture book
  • Birth Certificate holder. They have some nice sterling silver ones along with less expensive types!!
  • The last shower gift I gave was a scrapbook, I bought the book and had different people make pages so all she has to do is add the pictures.
