It's low impact, but still helps build up your bones. You work up a sweat and lose weight. The very best exercise is swimming though. :)

Since when is walking really exercise? And I suppose carrying groceries inside is weight training. And taking a bath is a swim routine... I know that probably whole books have been written on walking as a training regimine, but SERIOUSLY. Walking is for soccer moms and fat chicks.
