I blame the mass media

I wouldn't say that - some folks would argue it's become very (neo-)Conservative. What I think both sides would agree on is that people are becoming more polarized, and moving towards the extremes on both sides. Perhaps we can elect a non-polarizing President in November, who will work with both factions.

We're heathens, that's why.

I believe the Bible was taken out of the schools in 1963, and the nation that forgets God and His voice contained in Scripture shall be turned into hell. Check the news and you will see what I mean. It will be worse, for this is only the beginning. However, there is one escape, and that is the rapture.

It all started as they abolished slavery, probably... ;-)

got me their... people want to fix every little wrong and have no time for important matters... this system sucks if your not rich enough to get away with everything

Ok, this is my opinion: I believe there is sufficient evidence that it has a lot to do with people turning their backs on God. For one thing, teaching the religion of evolution in school as though it were a scientific fact has done a grievous harm to our nation. It all comes down to this: if there is no God, then everything is permissable, and anything goes. Let the DR's commence...

I reject the premise. 3 out of the last 4 presidents where Republican and Clinton never won majority of vote thanks to Ross Perot. Before 2006 both the senate and the house where dominated by Republicans. The Democrats didn't win the house in 2006 it was the Republicans that lost it. Because they did not implement their conservative principles. Liberalism has made some progress though. They have succefully demonized the gas industry and made it impossible to drill or build refineries in America. They are responsible for the gas prices.

Because current-day America considers Hitler Liberal. Our viewpoint is skewed to the right. We are considered conservative by a good chunk of the rest of the world, the exceptions being mostly dictatorships and non-Christian Theocracies.

No other direction for the pendulum to swing.
-
because the tax code has forced the American family into a two-income household, thus forcing a parent into the workforce

I think there are two reasons, one is kind of causing the other. The main problem is that God and the bible are being taken out of every day life. Because of this, each generation gets farther away from Christ. They feel the need to rebel against the past, this is the second problem. I find that children my age put little thought into things. They hear save the animals and start yelling about global warming. They think it is silly to believe in God and they are not taught/ignore the morals taught in the Bible and in churches.

HA HA HA HA HA HA. You think American's are liberal? Do you understand the term?
-
actually, it's probably more conservative in many ways when compared to the revolutionary war era. there were self described atheists in government then, thomas jefferson wrote his own bible, franlin (among others) were openly promiscuous. i could go on and on. these men are not only revered now but were also revered then and their antics and beliefs were widely known yet they weren't hounded from office like our politicians are now. no, when it comes to politics we are definitely more conservative now than we have been.

America has not become liberal. George Washington grew weed, Thomas Jefferson owned slaves, (2 things that were taken away!) We enjoyed many more freedoms when this country was started! We have lost more and more rights with every decade. Right to bear arms, women having rights, children could work in mines, all drugs were legal back then, everything has become way more conservative. Look around you, (I don't mean your backyard, but globally) we are one of the most conservative industrialized countries on the planet. We trail behind almost everyone in happiness, health, how long you live, civil rights, prisoner rights, etc. I have traveled, America hasn't been free since the military industrial complex and the corporations took over like Eisenhower warned...

After 8 years of Fascist Republicanism, what else can you expect? Oh yeah we took God out of the schools, BS! The problem? Is that those who claim that they're PRO-God are often the very folks we have to keep an eye on the most! http://dkosopedia.com/wiki/Examples_of_Republican_hypocrisy_on_moral_values http://religiouschildabuse.blogspot.com/2008/02/mormons-boy-scouts-targets-of-new-suit.html How about some good examples coming from the Religious Reich for a change?

Why do many like to label ideas and people with labels that most cannot define? What exactly are the liberal ideas that you do not like. To respond directly to your question one would need to know what you refer to and then to give a reply that you would like would have to agree that we have "become so liberal". I would surmise that you feel you know your answer.
