find one with no annual fee and some sort of reward (cash back, miles...). And then ALWAYS ALWAYS pay it off at the end of the month. Otherwise the card will cost you more $$ than you are actually getting in rewards, and every thing you buy will cost you more as well. Not worth it!! Good luck!!

Best advice here is to destroy the card. If you aren't very, very careful, that piece of plastic will land you in bankruptcy court. A debit card is much safer. Either you have the money, in the bank to make a purchase, or you don't. Credit cards are ruining peoples credit score.

If you are trying to establish credit, then make sure you pay off the full amount every month, or you could get in over your head. (I'm not an expert, but there are probably better ways to establish credit.)

I got a Discover right out of College and paid it off at the end of every month. Now, I have good credit and I actually got a cash back check for over $600 last year. Discover is nice because, if you want to keep up with their "promotions," you can make a lot of extra bonuses. For example, gas gave 5% back this month. That will accumulate on the card until you want it. You can get gift cards during special times and double your bonus. It is a game but look at it like this. I am gonna spend money on expenses this month regardless. If I cycle that through my discover card first, I am gonna get at least 1% on money that I spend. That works out to at least a 12% APR for nothing. You can't find solid no-risk investments like that anywhere right now in this market. And this is 12% on money I am spending not saving. Don't be foolish though. Pay your debt at the end of the month and don't get more than 3 credit cards. I have a Visa that gives me 3% back on my electricity, a gas discover that gives me 5% back on fuel and my original discover. It works well for me and Federal law states you are only liable for $50 if they get stolen. Most cards now have 0 liability anyway. It works if you are responsible.

here is the best advice you will ever recieve : PAY ATTENTION ! Credit Cards are EVIL. Anyone that tells you that you need one to establish Credit, it ignorant and/or works for a credit card company. Buy what you want with cash, if you can't afford it don't buy it. Establish credit with bank accounts, car loans, mortgages. Don't be fooled by modern day loan sharks.
