  • I'm all for it.
  • Wooha!! We're on a role the morning. No, I don't think so--"boring". Give me the bells and whistles and while you're at it, throw in some trumpets!
  • I rather enjoy all of the different sub catagories, it makes finding certain things easier.
  • I do believe there needs to be less categories...I stay confused...LOL ;)
  • I can see where that might be a benefit to the "asker", but the "answerer" might have to spend a lot more time trying to find a question that they could answer. Example: If the "music" category wasn't broken down, an answerer could go through a lot of questions before they found a question about the music genre that they are knowledgeable about.
  • But just think of how full the Everything Else catagory would be compared to the Mineral catagory....I'm sure 70% of all questions would go to everything else.
  • Meh, I kind of like that you can narrow questions so much. But your system would make questions easier to categorize.
  • I don't think it would be a good idea as it would make this site as a usable, searchable data base of information, pretty hard to navigate through. For one thing, how would answers ever get answered if the ones who would know about that subject find it? Once it gets off the home page it would be gone forever in amongst 200,000 other questions. For instance, if someone is having trouble with their rabbits (lol!) and then ask a question, how could someone find it under just animal? It will never get found unless some person decides to search for every rabbit question, but then again, even those are numbered in the thousands and a search only brings up 25 pages of them. Or if someone wants to find answers and they are looking for info on how to grow roses, they can't spend time searching through vegetable. And where would you find a question on fertilizing a garden? Veggie? or Mineral? I think for the fact questions there needs to be exact categories so people can find and answer things. For those other kinds of questions, it really doesn't matter where in Outside the Bag they go. They may get shuffled around much, and even shuffled back later by someone else, but it really doesn't matter as to where they go as they get answered and usually don't have people searching for them here or at Google. They usually get answers and don't go waiting for answers.
  • Uum...sure. ;) I'm sure I can find a thousand things wrong with doing that, but I'm too lazy now. :)
  • Great idea! I just registered yesterday and already the catagories are driving me nuts!
  • I think the categories are helpful, but there are probably too many of them. And they are not always good structured. I always look for an accurate category for the questions I am asking, but I have widely given up the "Wrong Category" flagging, not because I were not aware of wrong categories, but because I find it very difficult to find the right one. In the end, my +% in moderating is just sinking and it looks like I am just doing unwise flagging.
  • Sounds like a reasonable idea. We cut them down last year but now we seem to have a category for every question.
  • That would take a lot of time and AB might get put off for a while. But if it could happen it would make it hard for me to get around AB.
  • yeah. i know. did you know that there's a potato chip category. there's also a prostitution and pimps category. and, the last two are not combined into one category. there's a prostitution category, and then there's a pimps category. there's also a gigolo category. lmfao at the adult section.
