The "badge" of Expert does not reflect that you are an expert in any one area. It is a rank based on your total points. It is a name and title without meaning or merit. There is nothing for you to decide or chose - no niche involved. We used to have Category Experts which was a secondary accolade based on a user answer and gaining "the most" points in any particular category of question. If you wanted to strive for this, you would seek out questions in a category that you really knew well and answer the heck out of the questions. I don't think we have category experts anymore, but I may be wrong.

If you look at your public profile, just at the bottom, it will say, "expert in" To become an expert in a category, you must have the most points from answering questions in that category. Some experts have more than a thousand points, and some have just a hundred, or so.

Go to your profile. Right now you're not an expert in anything. Does it matter? No it doesn't.
-
... just check your profile ... ... if you want to compare, check my profile, I am an expert in several categories ...

If you are the first to answer 5 questions and get 24 points in an expert-less category then you become the initial expert. Then it just works up from there till whoever has the most points derived from answers becomes the expert. I wish you the best of luck in your pursuits. Go for something obscure and you can be an expert too. All the best luck as well.

Go to your profile, click on public profile,it says expert in, you click it and it shows what you are a expert in. If this dosen't come up on public profile then your not an expert in anything yet.
