im afraid there is no easy way. you have to scrape it all off. if you dont want to scrape it all off you could plasterboard it but you would need to plaster over the plasterboard if you did it this way. if you decide to plasterboard over the top of the artex make sure you find the joists :0)

plaster over it - removal is a waste of time and effort, even if you can it will take you so long and at the end you will still have to fill any holes/dents etc with filler and then sand them all flat, same with any surface area that has been damaged.

I bought some X-TEX, AS IT SOUNDED VERY GOOD ,BUT THIS WAS THE MANUFACTURERS ADVICE. My advise is "buy some if you want to waste your time and money". The colour of it is blue but had it been brown then I could have described it in four letters. Leave it alone. Besssst regards. B. Dixon.

Use one of those steam wallpaper stripping plates to soften it and scrape it off. I would just skim over it with a couple of coats of finishing plaster.

Regardless of how you do it, be careful if it's old it likly contains asbestos.
