I enjoy a book the most if it is appropriate to the time it was written. When I read a book published in the 1920s, for instance, I like to read it in an edition from that time (ideally as a first edition). Then, I prefer hardcover books to paperbacks. I think the design of a book contributes significantly to its message, and I enjoy books with great typography and design very much. Of course, you often read books in newer editions because they are easier to come by and cheaper than original editions. I am always aware of the type of edition I have in front of me. I do not like audiobooks and online reading so much.

I like books in all shapes and forms, but find I choose that based on what kind of book (topic or form) it is. :) -- For fiction, it's mostly paperbacks or audiobooks. Paperbacks can be new from the bookstore or old ones from a used book store. I'll keep some and pass the rest along once read. For audiobooks, I don't normally buy them, but rather borrow them from my local public library. One branch here as a TON of audiobooks on both tape and CD. What's weird is that I've now come to have a "favorites list" on the readers! lol I've even listened to books (novels) I might not have read - didn't know the author or book before - but did because "that person reads it"! The voice can make or break even a great book. No wonder it's considered "a performance" and readers get "credit" on the back of the audiobook! :) -- For nonfiction, I normally want that in print vs audio. Have both hardcover and paperback and I'm more likely to buy then keep them vs rotate them out the door when finished. If I'm not sure, I'm more likely to get them from the library first and buy if they're "good". -- But I read all sorts of biographies, diaries, history, cultural history, lots of "how to" in many areas and much more online all the time - so enter my computer screen too. -- And more! But think I'll stop typing now! lol

I used to prefer hardbacks. I read paperbacks now, it is easier on the arthritis in my hands.
