I agree, not just for the sake of the blind but for the sake of us all. Motorists depend very largely on their hearing to get a sense of what is around them. For instance - you have a much better chance of being wiped out by a motorist if you are driving a fairly quiet Honda motorcycle than you do if you are driving a Harley. Reason - the motorist hears the rumble of the engine and knows to look out for the vehicle making the racket. As a pedestrian I know I rely on being able to hear traffic around me.
