If you are willing enough, you can ask him questions and have him vent to you. It would probably make him feel a little better to have someone there. Just keep in mind, though, that if he does kill himself, it wouldn't be your fault -- ultimately, it's something he decides on his own.

Whatever he does it won't be your "fault". If he's talking about it he probably won't do it and if he tries he'll probably fail. He needs help-"I'm going to kill myself because people are mean to me?"-How lame is that. People live in slavery, with terminal illnesses, in refugee camps, in war and don't kill themselves. He's probably just looking for attention. Next time he mentions it say, "OK, good idea. But please don't bleed on my backpack".
