I didn't let her, but my daughter picked up my Bacardi & Sprite thinking it was water. She won't be doing that again. She took a big swig and promptly threw up.

I dont have any kids. But, if it is a responsible setting, then I suppose It would be a good learning experience. Better to find out at home, than on the street, or some strangers house. Right?

I introduced my son to various sips of wine when he was a young man..to teach him the difference among the various wines. When he was older I told him that if he and his friends were going to have a beer or wine cooler or whatever (they were all old enough to drive) to promise me they would confine it to home and never drive. There were no drunken orgies around our home, but as far as I know my son and his friends honored that request. As far as giving him a sip of a mixed drink I might be having, no, I don't recall ever having done that. As a grown man, my son enjoys wine and beer and an occasional Mai Tai (at the Mai Tai Bar on Waikiki, along with the fabulous Coconut Shrimp). He does not drink daily..he does not "need" a drink...but he enjoys it when appropriate with his friends and family! :) I think I did the right thing! :)

He is 12 and curious. So instead of him asking someone else we said yes to him when he asked for a couple of sips(too young for more then that)It is only seen at a party setting so he undersatands it is not a daily occurance in our life.It is a good start I think...I hope.
