Teachers: During an in-class homework assignment, you overhear one student asking another for an answer to one of the questions. The answer doesn't sound right to the 1st student, so she asks the 2nd one how she got that answer. Is this cheating?

If it will be treated as a homework assignment, would you let the students call each other at night and ask about problems? If so, I wouldn't consider it cheating unless one student just asked for a list of answers .

If student one seriously tried answering the question and was struggling so they were asking for help I would say no (unless it was an exam). If that is against the rules of the class remind them to ask the teacher for help.

Homework assignment? No, I don't think I would. Our children should learn early on to help one another. Now if they were taking a test, that would be another story.
