I am already in the process of getting a new home with my spouse. If I apply to purchase another home to flip/rent out, how will that affect my approval in getting the home with my spouse?

You will just have to let the mortgage arranger already dealing with your main purchase, to add the purchase price of the other property as an outstanding commitment, so the system has the right info for affordability purposes. As long as you can afford them both you should be ok :)
