Why do we teach kids not to take candy from strangers, yet take them trick or treating?

Because they're supervised while trick or treating.

Can you say, "oxymoron"? Oxymoron having been said, the fact that we can no longer (in most cases) safely send or take our kids out trick or treating is a sad commentary on our society, as we can no longer trust those around us to love and protect our children as we do (or should). Our society is degenerating at an alarming rate, people-wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late!
