  • There a two types of pit bulls , '' the american pit bull'' , and ''the pit bull'' one is of english origan and other american , changing the subjects matter there are lots of bull terriers if that is what you ment , staffordshire , pit , bull terrier and so on , hope this helps ;)
  • American Pit bull Terrier Staffordshire Bull Terrier they are both considered Pits However there are more bull terrier breeds and others that can have a similar look to pitbulls.
  • www.gotdogsonline.com If I'm not considered the bullmastiff is also considered a 'pit bull' The term pit bull originated from dog fighting anyways as the term pit refers to the rings they fought in.
  • Not sure if this is what you were looking for, but pit bulls are also categorized by: red nose, blue nose, brindle... Hope that helps :-)
  • There is the American Pit Bull. Then there are other dogs that are similar in appearance but very different in origin and much older, the English Bull Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Bull terriers and Pits are not the same kind of dogs.
  • If you are confused about all the names you see associated with the American Pit Bull Terrier the following article will help answer your questions and clear up some common misconceptions too. First and foremost there is only one breed of dog that can be called a "Pit Bull" and that is "The American Pit Bull Terrier." The APBT is the only breed with the words, "Pit Bull" in its name, therefore when someone refers to a "Pit Bull" using capital letters they are talking about a purebred American Pit Bull Terrier. What happened is, the media and people who don't have a clue about what a real APBT looks like started attaching generic names to dogs that are similar in appearence. The most common dogs referred to as "pitbulls" are: * The American Staffordshire Terrier (a close cousin to or some think the same breed as the APBT) * The Staffordshire Bull Terrier (also referred to as the English Staffordshire Bull Terrier) * The American Bulldog * The Dogo Argentino * The Bull Terrier * The Presa Canerio * The American Pit Bull Terrier * or any mix of the above breeds.
  • Staffordshire Bull Terrier is The same as the German Pit bull. The Staffordshire Terrier is the American Pit bull. The american has no pit bull in at all. They don't even share the same dna or anything. The only reason why they are even call american pit bull is because they look so much like the german pit. I know all this because I breed the staffordshire Terrier aka american Pit bull. Just like their jaws don't lock they are just really strong. They are so many myths to these animals and people really do need do to reshearch before trying to answer any question about the two very different breeds. Or before they get judged.
  • There is only one type of Pit Bull it is the APBT (American Pit Bull Terrior) Staffordshire Bull terrier is the cousin of the APBT. And they are not catagorized by red, blue nose etc. They are simply American Pit Bull Terriors. The are a registered breed, as are the Staffordshire Terriers (its own breed), and Bull terriers (its own breed). All are different types of dogs. • ok well ther is only one!!!american pit bull terier!!every one thinks that staffies r the same thing but there not!staffies has longer fur and they r smaller!im a vet,i should know!
  • I am very sorry I offended you. All I know is what I have been told by the AKC. There is not dog breed with the words "PIT BULL" in front of the breed name..it's not good publicity. I use to breed and show White Bull Terriers..Spuds McKenzie types and I had one at stud. You have no idea of what I went through with a neighbor or mine..she even called police to search my yard and had the UPS man so afraid he wouldn't even deliver packages to our home and all because she "thought" we had PIT BULLS. I even asked her to talk to me about it be she was convinced! Now maybe you can understand my passion with words like "Pit Bull"! Like I said all I know is what the AKC has told me,personally. Once again, I am sorry I offended you and I never meant to do that. I hope you can see my point too! Peace!
  • I have just received a reply from AKC on this. The "only" breed of "pit type" dog accepted by the AKC, in the United States, is the American Staffordshire Terrier. "NO" dog with the words "Pit Bull" as a part of it's "breed name" is accepted or registered by the AKC, at all. They also told me the words, "Pit Bull" are a "generic term" that they do not approve of or use. This is all a direct quote from the message I received on this subject.
  • how many breeds of pit bulls
  • just to let people know that the ukc will register an american pit bull terrior. the akc will not due to what most people think of when they hear the word pitbull
