  • You'd probably injure yourself worse by doing that. Modern elevators have speed governors, brakes that activate when tension on the cable goes slack, and pistons at the bottom of the shaft. So if you're standing in the car, you'll slow down with the car when the brakes kick in or it hits the piston. But if you're in mid-jump, the car will come to a stop and you'll slam into the floor at the speed the elvator was falling before the safeties stopped it.
