Is the similarity between Aladdin and Abu's names and Ali baba just a coincidence, or is there more to this?

If I remember correctly, the story behind The Thousand and One Nights is that a king's wife was to be executed and to delay her execution, she told a different story every night. If this is so, it might account for the similarities in names. After a thousand and one nights of storytelling, I think the names of my characters would sound pretty similar.
