  • Verizon uses whats called CDMA service Code-Division Multiple Access. Phones that have SIM cards use GSM service. They are not inter-changeable. Phones may look the same-but different models are made for GSM or CDMA or TDMA. The only way to transfer service on Verizon is from one CDMA phone to another.
  • A Samung SCH A790 has CDMA and GSM bands.
  • So I just took my phone apart to see, because i have Verizon and my phone does not have one.
  • This answer is just over 2 years old, so present info might be useful. The manufacturer of a cell phone makes them to the provider's specs. A particular model by LG for example, might be available to T-Mobile and also Verizon, but the Verizon model would NOT have the SIM card, while the T-Mobile would. I have an LG phone from Verizon with no SIM card, but has a raised plastic label (underneath the battery) in exactly the same size and shape as a SIM card, where it undoubtedly exists in some non-Verizon phone of the same model. There are now, however, two exceptions to Verizon's non-SIM card policy. I forget the models, but the info must be available from Verizon, if you twist their arm. They don't seem to want this info to become widely available. To avoid any problems, I advise avoiding Verizon, which is a very big rip-off company. I will soon be taking my own advice.
  • Even if Verizon had sim cards in their phones, the actual networks the phones will work on are not compatible. As someone mentioned before, Verizon is CDMA & T-mobile/At&t are GSM.
