I always used to go with a Mars bar and a Lucozade just before the exam for energy & staying alert. Fish is good for the brain, so eat during the study periods. Generally though, the healthier you eat and better rested you are the better your memory retention and brain function will be. All the usual: fruit & veg etc - avoid the sugar load mentioned above, especially as part of a study day - in retrospect it was probably a bit much!!

Try strong black coffee. It is recognized as a brain food especially at exam time.
