Why does a person wear their heart on their sleeve? Is it a gift or a curse? Is there a better place to wear it?

Some because they have trouble keeping it inside; I think some people never learned how to guard their heart or emotions, and so wear it out so plainly. Sometimes I think it's a gift, as some of those who wear their hearts so openly also share other things so well: love, friendship, compliments, etc. No matter how many times they get hurt, they never learn to shield, and so share whatever they have to give with everyone. It's somewhat child like (please note, not childISH) and is very endearing. I also think it can be a curse, because I know people who are hurt so frequently because they didn't learn to guard their heart. I wear mine on the inside, behind a thick wall with steel barbs around it. I have a great capacity for love that only the most challenge-loving people ever get to see. That's not the best place to wear it either.
