Without a reader? Do you mean without the actual computer that generates the codes?

No, I need to know how to insert a jumper and look at the dash to find out why the check engine lamp is on. I found a few posts elsewhere that said to jumper te1 and e1 on the diagnostic jumper then turn the ignition on and count the flashes the engine lamp makes, but that doesn't seem to work.
