From Saperlo (oral surgeon) I presume that this happened post-extraction? 16 refers to your upper-right first molar tooth. This tooth has 3 large roots which often protrude into the sinus in the floor of your nose (called the antrum). In these cases, when the tooth is removed, it can open up a hole from your mouth into your nose, which is called an "oro-antral fistula" Sorry but there's no easy solution. You will need to have a small operation to close it. Don't put it off because it will become a real problem if left too long. Hope this helps.

Sorry but there's no easy solution - wrong. Most oral surgeons give you instructions such as "don't smoke, or drink through a straw" and give you a few weeks to see if it'll close. They usually do.
