Well... Sapphires and emeralds are less expensive then diamonds to my knowledge. And if I remember correctly, rubies have gotten pretty damn rare in the past few decads, so my guess would be a well processed ruby. (My lovely birthstone).

If all are the same quality, diamonds would be the most expensive. But if you had a very flawed diamond, compared to a very high quality or rare type of sapphire, the cost might be close to each other.

Wake up people. Diamonds are anything but rare. Don't confuse the actions and campaigns of the diamond industry with the realities of its production and quantity.

In terms of cost, diamonds are the most expensive because the people setting the prices are the ones doing the selling. Shocker, huh? In fact, the highest price stone is the one that they have the largest supply of. Weird, isn't it?

If you ask which is the most rare, and thus should be the most expensive, it would be the ruby.

If I remember what I was told in my gemology class, all of these stones have competed for the title of most valuable stone. However, there are a number of factors that must be taken into account including the quality of the stone. If I remember correctly, good, high clarity emeralds are really quite rare, rarer than similar quality diamonds. So, all factors being equal, emeralds actually tend to be more valuable then diamonds.

Diamonds. I think they are the most valuble substance on the earth. They will stay that way unless someone finds a huge diamond mine.

Diamonds no doubt. They are even the hardest substance too!

Spoke with a jeweler the other day about a custom ring.. his grade SI-1 diamonds were CHEAPER than comparatively sized natural blue sapphires!... and as was said the diamond markup has more to do wit the companies that control the industry than with supply or rarity.

Diamonds are the most expemsive here because they can be used for a lot of things. But you'd be better off selling antimatter because its about $1,750 trillion US Dollars per ounce.
