way too long, I actually never finished it. I switched to the Odyssey.

It took several weeks on my first go. I read in it off and on. I think it is a great book. I have also read two different German translations of it. It is a good book to read together with related materials, such as Homer's Odyssey. I think Joyce was the first writer who was able to describe how thinking actually happens.

Yes, I read it twice. I understood that it's a sream of consiousness novel, written from a certain social perspective. The book was interesting, but I definitely wouldn't read it again. : )

It did take some time, but then I cheated and bought the DVD. The movie although in black and white is rather awesome! It really put things into perspective as much as I hate to say it. It isin't half as hard to understand as it was in just reading it. I also have an incredible tape that I made on Joseph Campbell's take on Joyce. Campbell has a way of cracking tough things open like nuts... Until Campbell, joyce was not quite as fun or romantic for me. Check out your local library and see if they have it on VHS.
