The whole "he's the best" thing is a marketing gimmick which alludes to how big a sellout you are.

Poeple think Lil wayne is the best rapper alive, because he calls himself the best rapper alive. its just like how people think budwiser is the best beer, becasue budwieser calls them selves the "king of beers". As mastodon said, "its a marketing gimick". People who claim he's the best probably think he is the best becasue he makes the most songs. Lil wayne has recorded probably around 200 songs within the last couple years. Also he has a unique flow that is appealing to people. Not to say that he isnt a good rapper, but i think he takes advantage of gulliable people by tricking them into beleiving that he is the best rapper alive.
