Look online for a contact method and inform them you did not join. Tell them to send a postage-paid return label for you to return them or, by law, ( http://www.usps.com/postalinspectors/fraud/merch.htm ) you will dispose of them as you see fit, without paying. If they say you joined their club, demand proof.

your first mistake was opening the package. you should have realized the error and said, hmmmm, I didnt order this...and just write REFUSED across the face of your address. Now that it is opened, you will have to pay postage for its return. You can check to see if the outside of the package says that return postage is guarranteed. It would be located with the return address. If that is stated, then they feel that the books have value. And you should wrap them up and state in a letter with the books that you are refusing the book membership. Otherwise, the book company will just assume you got them and accepted them and are responsible for payment. If there is no such statement with the address, then the book company doesnt expect to get them back and they probably wont pursue you too much. perhaps with an invoice later, with which you can return with the words refused across your address on the invoice.
