vodka and vermouth...or gin and vermouth...and maybe with a splash of scotch as well...but I used to like my vodka martinis straight up (vodka on the rocks).

Gin and vermouth. But only a hint of vermouth. Some people like Vodka martinis but traditionalists like the former.

Martini's are really just comprised of gin or vodka with dry vermouth swirled in a glass. Unless you want it dirty, then it gets olive juice:)
