I'm a guy. I can out sew and out cook my wife any minute. I don't see an issue. It's a hobby and if it helps you relax, go with it.
-
I think being able to sew is a valuable skill regardless of gender. I used to reattach my own buttons when I was in the Navy. I took pride in octuple-stitching them so that they never got ripped off again.
-
Im not a guy but not one thing is only for guys and girls for example jump rope .yes alot of girls do it but some guys do it to. anything is possible for a guy and a girl
-
perfectly fine

here's an article you might be interested in: http://www.patternspatch.com/public/281.cfm Cross stitch is a simple and elegant way of doing embroidery. This method of embroidery is very old, but still popular as was in ancient times. It was originated from itinerant warriors called Celts almost 25 centuries ago. The Celts were best known for their creativity, poetry, embroidery art, pattern making, myths and stories.
-
Rosie Grier ?sp the football player loved to embroider and was not shy about it. Love to see what you are working on.
-
That's great!! I think it's such a wonderful thing you do this!! I, honestly, never thought of this type of thing as a guy doing them, but nonetheless it's great!! What are you working on?
-
As long as the guy was moderately masculine, I'd think that was hot. For some reason, it's awesome when a guy does something traditionally "feminine" and loves it. You should learn to knit, that would be even cuter. Work on cars all day and knit sweaters at night.
-
I think its great i have a male friend who has just started cross stitching and he loves it.
-
Hey, I'm a 52 year old grandfather that makes jewelry out of beads! I find it relaxing and my grandkids love to wear them. I say go for it! Who cares what people think? If you enjoy it, more power to you!
-
I think it's fine. I've known several men that knitted or did needlepoint. My husband can sew a little, even made a pair of men's trousers and is great help picking out fabric with me for sewing or quilting. I never worried about his sexuality. What difference does it make. Some women like to work with wood or work on cars. So?
-
I think it's fine as well, although it has to be said that it's probably more popular with women, but that doesn't, of course, mean that men shouldn't do this too. I think it demonstrates an attitude to life and a way of thinking that's commendable (e.g. patience, attention to detail, a desire to create something).
-
I think it doesn't matter; you like what you like.
-
I think its awesome, any art is beautiful. Any hobby thats lets you express your creativity, and is rather cathartic, is necessary for everyone if you ask me.
-
My great-grandfather used counted cross stitch, crewel work and rug hooking to stave off depression in his last years in a nursing home. This was an ex-navy man who sailed around the world with the Great White Fleet and who fired steam boilers in a factory most of his life. He was married more than sixty years and raised five kids. No one ever questioned his masculinity.
-
chuck norris does it.. has been doing it for years as a matter of fact, so i think you'll be alright
-
Good for you! The best of show at our county fair almost always goes to one man who does counted cross stitch on linen. I've cross stitched for years and I hate doing things on linen. So you go guy!
-
I'm a woman, and in my opinion I don't see any thing wrong with men doing needlework or crafts of any kind. We all need to relax and whatever hobby helps us do that is great. I enjoy mowing the lawn, which a lot of people consider to be the man's job ... however, I find that not only is it good exercise, but it sure is a great stress buster. I can get lost in thought, and leave the world behind me for an hour or so. My final word ... YOU GO GUY!
-
It is a perfectly harmless, creative hobby, why care what anybody else would think? Enjoy!
-
I think its great, hobbies and crafts are interest based, not gender based.
-
I agree with all the above...why be stuck in sexist, limiting roles. Every answer so far has been supportive. Maybe people should extend this thought and realize we are all people, before we are a gender. Sexism pisses me off. My gay male roommate, who was half my age, taught me how to knit (though I had already crotched when I was a girl).
-
I have a brother who loves to knit and you couldn't find anyone more manly than him so, kudos! I think it's awesome that you want to do it!
-
Cross stitch is very relaxing but keeps you on the ball at the same time. It is therapy/quiet time and is good for a man as well as a woman. MANY things could be worse....
-
I think it's a great hobby for a man. I taught my husband to cross stitch now he's better at it than I am ; )
-
My godfather learned me to cross stitch when I was 10 I dont see a problem with it I also taught a primary 7 class cross stitch and had more boys than girls
-
If you like some craft or whatever, but you don't do it because of what other people will think, especially of your masculinity...then you may have something to be concerned about. Get it together, you have more serious problems then what people will think of you cross stitching! I know a guy learning to knit because he wants to teach the craft to his daughter. This man is very sweet and his being secure enough NOT to worry about what others will think is very manly. Good luck to you, I hope you get over your discomfort Counted cross stitch is a pretty cool hobby.
-
If you like it do it, who cares about what others think. Do what makes you happy, it's not your job to make them happy! : O )
-
I know plenty of men who cross stitch. I myself was an avid stitcher and went to needlework conventions for 14 years. Men are also some of the best designers. Happy Stitching!
-
If most people think that, then perhaps most people should keep their mouths shut. :>) I think it's a great hobby for anyone: meditative, reflective, and you end up with a beautiful product. I know of at least a handful of men that do cross stitch. ALL needle arts, IMHO, are for ALl people: quilting, sewing, crochet, knitting, whatever.
-
Women play football these days so i see no problem with men doing cross stitch .........if you enjoy doing cross stich thats all you have to worry about ...
-
I see nothing wrong with it. My husband sews, he made the curtains we have in the kitchen and he is working on the ones for the bathroom.
-
if ya love to do it...that's okay with me...isn't it fun?
-
just follow your goals dont be ashamed. Every one has holes in his life.
-
CROSS STITCH KIND OF SEWING IS FOR LEATHER ARTICLES, LIKE SADDLES,ETC. A MAN'S WORK OR SEAFARER STITCHING.
-
It doesnt matter who u r! its ok to to do hobbies like these.im a woman and i crochet, knit and make crafts of ne kind! DIY!
-
To each their own...
-
It is a feminine pursuit. That doesn't mean its bad for a man to do it. I am a woman but enjoy woodworking. So what? There was a huge football player named Rosie Grier who used to knit. Didn't make him less masculine. Enjoy it if that's what you like to do and if it bothers you what others might think, don't tell anyone.
-
I have a male collegue who is very adept at tapestry making some fantastic wall coverings....he's gay ...so what. I do all the sewing and stitching in my house,my wife will admit that she,s useless...I was brought up with three sisters and mum was a dressmaker, she was an only child. I also do watercolour painting and fly tying, whats the difference.... Each to his own, keep it up I'm sure whatever you produce is better than the girls do......
-
i think its great, i bet you are good at it too, probably better than most woman, thats why men make good chefs...and all that. Go for it, who cares what people think, they always going to think what they want. Whos cares.........
-
Yeah it's fucking quer
-
i find nothing wrong with it hell i love cooking and i hope to learn as much about cooking as i can most people think cookings for girls so in a senses some guy like things like sewing and cooking it just depends on if your comfortable about it or if its something you keep in the closet because its only a problem when its in the closet
-
My husband is a Marine and he does latch hook. In my eyes, he is all the sexier for being confident enough to do what gives him pleasure regardless of whether it is traditionally masculine or feminine. Also, as a fellow crosstitcher-YO!
-
thats pretty damn adorable
-
When I was younger I was taught how to crochet. I thought it was pretty cool and the basics were something to do to pass the time. Like some others say, it's a hobby and if you're good at it, who cares what others think?
-
I say if it feels good and it relaxes you and the outcome makes you happy...do it!Personally I ADMIRE A MAN WHO IS ABLE TO DO ANYTHING he wants and regardless of other people's opininons.IN THE END only how you feel matters!=]
-
I'm a girl and I stitch and I feel there is nothing wrong with a man knowing how to stitch. If you like it and it makes you happy who cares if it's suppose to be geared towards one gender. Go for it!
-
I think it's just fine for you to do whatever you want. Many men find cross-stitching or knitting relaxing.
-
my brother got into crafts. he mad out of plates, plastic parkay bowls and light bulb kit., a lamp and paint it black with gold trim. he made several dozen and sold them at a Bazzar. he also carved soap, crochet afghans, and made doilies. Kudos to you. you found something you like. i use to do counted cross stich. you can make money with your talent, bazzars, flea markets, ebay. with a full time job and cleaning and getting supper ready,i barely have time anymore.
-
i think its great that a guy does cross stiching good on you
-
I think anyone that seriously thinks that hobbies have genders is pretty stupid. Go you-- you are a lot more patient than me if you can cross-stitch. :)
-
The Bayeux Tapestry may have been embroidered by men. Your just following in a long line of male embroiderers There are lots of masculine x-stitch kits out there. Dragons, footballers (that's soccer players) and other sports, cars, trucks, and etc.
-
I think it's silly people assign gender identity to things like this.
-
I think it is great. If it makes you happy and lowers stress as it does me. Do It. Good for you.
-
Rosie Greer used to needlepoint. So what is the big deal. Ifdoing stuff like that relaxes you thats good. Also it will help you if you need to sew on a button or do some darning. In todays world you really have to know how do a little bit of everything.
-
it's a good a hobby as any.
-
Most needle work is very exacting and truly demands focus and attention. Counted cross stitch is certainly one of the most mind intensive of them. Anyone who enjoys this is all the better for it. You not only exercise your mind, but also improve your focus, fine motor skills, and attention to detail. This applies of course to both men and women. I do not believe that there is a so called "men's pursuit" or "women's pursuit."
-
if u like it then do it and dont listen to other ppl...when someone says it feminine they probally do something girly too...just ignore them
-
I think as long as you enjoy it why not? Don't let what others think get in the way of your creative pursuits, and especially your pleasure of things. Life's too short.
-
I think it's great!
-
Some people may think it's woosy. But if you enjoy it go for it!!!
-
Why not. Remember the football player Roise Greer. He did needlepoint.
-
As a cross stitcher, I think it's great! And I've found in the past that men tend to be better stitchers. I'm not sure why though. x
