I have a Panasonic LCD rear projection television. I think the bulb is burnt out. Do I have to buy the lamp that costs almost 300$?

You can take the lamp out and inspect it. If you can see that the filament is broken, you need a new lamp, and yep they are bloody expensive. That's the real downside of projectors and projection TVs. Only the most recently sets get around this problem by using lasers as light sources.
