Has anyone ever actually lost an eye, or close to it, from their guitar string snapping?

my friend lost an eye because of a bungie coord on his roof rack, thats the closest i can think of im afraid

I've never heard of that happening to anyone. However, I once had a string snap while I was tuning and it flipped around and jabbed me in the wrist - went in a good half inch!! Hurt like crazy, too!! And another time I was playing, a string broke, and the short piece of the string with the ball end shot out, spun around, and stabbed the bass player in the leg!!

I know a guy that plays guitar and messed up my vision somewhat when I accidentally looked right into a laser in the physics lab.

I've never heard of this. In fact, yesterday was the first time in my ten years of playing guitar that a snapped string hurt me, and it was only because of how I was holding the neck. And it hurt for just a second. A snapped string rarely will hurt you. Although strings are taut, they won't put out your eye. While I'm on the subject, I have never seen a nylon string break on a classical guitar. And I played the hell out of mine nearly exclusively for two years.

yes..... It popped up and hit me in the eye but did not have enough strength to pass my eye lashes. I guess I was lucky.
