  • Well, perhaps. Navajo, being a tribe, were a distinct sub-group of Native American. There were lots of other tribes, and a civilization (Aztec), that were in Mexico before is was conquered and colonized by whites. They all get lumped into the category of Mexican now - Navajo were never assimilated into the Aztec culture so they typically thought of as a distinct sub-group.
