Help answer this question below.
I used to pick pimples alot when I was really bored, such as sitting in class. In these situations, keep an object in your pocket to fiddle with and keep your hands occupied. This helped me alot.
Once you break the habit it gets alot easier and eventually you'll have no urge at all to pick them.
Instead of picking them- try carrying a small tube of something to treat them and use that every time you think of picking them. Part of my answer really came from the poster oregom who said to keep something in your pocket to fiddle with. Then I thought that a particular pimple may treated with a drying creme or a moisurizing creme or makeup to cover up the pimple. Sometimes I carry a small tube of skin colored makeup to cover the nicks of my shaving my face. Girls taught me that.
By remembering that if you pick at it they will scar!
The best way to stop pimple picking is to put cellotape on your nails in such a way that it covers the nails fully, especially the finger tip. do this to all of your nails.believe me, it really works, GUARANTEE!!!.do this for at least 4 days. even if u try to pick ur pimps, u won't b able to, because of cellotape on them. i tried it and got rid of the terrible habit of picking.
PUT POOP ON YOUR FINGERS
put hot sauce on the tips of your fingers
well~ i've been doing this since i was 12. I am now 16, and it's just awful. I've done it so much that having cuts and open sores on my face is a normal everyday thing. I had clear skin twice between my 12-16 year period. ONLY TWICE. and now, i just want to cry every day because I have all of these horrendous scars that I just need to get rid of, but i'm just so nervous i can't. It's truly depressing to know I did this to myself. I went to a dermatologist for the 1st time, and he's like, i'd hate to see your face get scarred, you're such a pretty girl. This just made me so upset. And like, i'd obsess over tyring to cover up my skin with makeup. I'd bring a makeup studio to school and spend as much time as possible trying to cover my blemishes. IT'S RIDICULOUS! and quite honestly, at times, the makeup makes it look worse cause I have a lot of dry skin as well~ so all i have to say is.. F&*K.
But,i'm truly learning to just not give a crap if I have a pimple or not. I'm very self conscience, but if you look at people around you, a lot of people have a small amount of acne and most people have blemishes, and quite honestly, I don't think twice about what their skin looks like. Like, if i don't care what their skin looks like... then I figure they must not care if i have a zit or 2, you know?
So, i'm just working on self control. I have found a regimen that works.
Clearasil, the old basic bottle, i put on some benzoyl peroxide, and put on clean and clear advantage moisturizer over that (it's great cause it makes your skin soft and smooth and moisturises, while it's a got a littly itty bitty bit of salicylic acid in it to prevent pimples.
I just need time to heal, i really do. Starting now, i'm not popping any zits, just putting on some cream to get rid of them. I'm going to work on a lot of moisturising, and wean off the makeup. I want to go out in public and know that my skin glows by itself, not with the mask of makeup. I also want to be more social, extroverted, and not worry about my skin, and never have to be so afraid to do the things normal people would do. Like, going swimming, going on roller coasters, and just seeing people period.
Time is the only thing that will heal me. I want to be the person I've wanted to be for the past 4 years. Feel like a kid again, where you never cared about the way you looked. You just went out and had fun and did your thing.
cut off your hands.
Wear gloves. Pimples are part of life.
I hear you loud and clear - sounds like my own story. I didn't suffer much from acne as a kid but in my late 20s, early 30s it became unbearable. I KNOW how hard it is and I have to agree... people DO NOT notice as much as you do - I PROMISE!! I really do think that covering it up makes it look worse in some cases AND it can slow the healing but that's just me. Although I got a laugh at the poop suggestion, here's what I've found works for me and I hope it helps you... the key is to be consistent and patient --- it can take a week or more to really start to see a shift in your skin. Good luck!!
As for the picking... I cut my nails REALLY short. I tend to "scratch" at my acne/dry spots when I'm doing mindless things like driving or watching tv... when I'm busy, I don't touch my face much. In cold months I wear gloves when I drive and even when I watch TV (as long as I'm alone - haha). I've also put bandaids (again, when Im alone or w/ someone Im comfortable with) on the "bad" ones to keep me from mindlessly touching them... its crazy but it helps! I once wrappen my chin/neck area in an Ace Bandage - no joke! My son came home from school and it scared him... :( :)
Another thing to remember is that sometimes all the promising products we try make matters worse. They all have basically the same "stuff" in them and most dry your skin out and make it worse - or create scabbing (yuck). I was home sick for 8 days recently; all i did to my face was wipe it down with a dampm cloth each day. My skin looked so much clearer when I went back to work!!! That really got me thinking about my strategy... I've also learned that HOT water isn't always a good thing... too much hot water can deprive your skin of necessary oils. Dry skin breaks out worse (in my case). So I wash my face with a simple, light cleanser with less chemicals (like Cetaphil)... I use warm water then I rinse with cold water - to close the pores.
I'm telling you, I have tried EVERYTHING. Ive wanted to go have layers of skin burned off my face and I would-a done it too. Sometimes we need to just get back to the basics. Think about it (I obviously have for years)... our ancestors didn't suffer like this; its the stuff we eat too. Again, this does not apply to everyone but I've read a lot about how hormones in our food (milk for example) contribute to skin problems. Grains can even contribute. I have honestly seen MUCH improvement in lowering these types of foods!! I still have breakouts but NOWHERE NEAR WHAT I WAS HAVING!
Things I use - research these online & talk to your parent/doctor about it :)
Organic Coconut Oil - Awesome for you, inside & out!!
Fresh Avacado - I cut one up to eat then use the rest as a mask - you can feel it doing "something" -- My skin always glows afterwards!!
Fish Oil - Talk to your parents/doctor first but its great for skin/hair - if taken consistently
I'm not a vegan or all-natural person, far from it but I DO think theres a lot to be said for organic foods/oils - just wish it hadn't taken me 35 years to learn this stuff!
Please go buy some Melalueca Tea Tree oil and treat your pimples with it :))
