That means they have unsubscribed from that comment thread, they wont be getting anymore alerts, if anything is added to that comment thread. Look under my answer, you will see the unsubscribe from comments button, right next to the comment button.

It means that they've unsubscribed from comments and will not see any comments or answers subsequent to their unsubbing.

Sweet T is correct it means they are informing those on the comment thread they do not plan to comment on the subject any longer. I have seen this many times, when a subject gets a bit nasty.

Sometimes I click on "unsub" accidently and I miss out on the action and drama when I do this. I also unsubscribe when other users use my comment thread as if it is a chat room. It annoys me when I'm getting notifications for comments that have nothing to do with me.
