Is there some type of solvent I can put in the radiator to flush it, or do I have to bring it to a shop?

For safety reasons I recommend that you do not use solvent in a hot engine- a little solvent can burst into flames by just touching the hot engine. I have seen some products that can be added to the radiator to clean it and then drain the radiator from the bottom and then add new radiator fluid. I never had real bad radiator fluid, so I have just drained the old and put in the new.
