If someone answers your question but their answer didnt really help, do you still give them points just to be polite?

Sometimes, especially if they respond to my comment asking how it applies to the question and IT makes sense.

I don't... I mean, why would you? If they answered just to answer... and it didn't help, well... what did it do besides waste your time reading it? And now, since it's an answered question, people might not answer it thinking someone already did that for you! I don't give points for useless answers unless I asked a conversational question; that's when you should. But educational? Get out of here! Just comment back, but no points if it didn't help.

It depends. If the person was sincere in trying to help and really thought the answer would help, I give the points. It's not just being polite it's recognizing the time and the effort the person took and made.

I give them points for taking the time to answer it. If I were to ask a question to someone face to face, and they gave me an unhelpful answer, should I slap them? Nah. You just let it go and use common sense. There are other ways of seeking help, other than Answerbag.

Yes, if they tried to be helpful, did their best, I'll give them points. It's not just being polite. And if I don't know the answer, how do I know they weren't helpful in many cases.

i give points for answering. if they are rude, i still give them points. it just makes them more mad. sometimes if they are rude, i will comment on their rudeness and still plus them some points. +1 for you.

I always give points to anyone who answers my questions. There are so many questions here that I feel it is only polite to give points to people who took the time to read and respond when they could have chosen not to.

I always give points for answers. They took time to answer,however if they are rude I will comment on it.

Sometimes, but I never Dr them..I figure, some questiond are just begging to have a funny answer, even if they are semi-serious..Some answers make me laugh no matter what, that's good too.
