Does any professional swimmer use a stroke other than the front crawl when performing 'freestyle'?

Professional swimmer... no. Although in freestyle any stroke can be swum as long as it is consistent throughout the race, freestyle is the fastest. In a USA affiliated meet some swimmers choose to swim butterfly, breaststroke, or backstroke during the event just ot get a time. Hope this helps!
