Why would he be facing Mecca? What sort of inane question is this?

1) Seen from America, it must be about the same direction as Jerusalem. Many churches are oriented towards Jerusalem: "Speaking of orientation, churches are nearly always oriented so that the main altar is at the east end of the church, facing Jerusalem, and, not coincidentally, the rising sun."
